Maths courses in Aarau for children from age 6
Eight groups a week at Laurenzenvorstadt 77, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Small groups of at most eight children, by age and level.
Aarau is the Brainorithmics location with the most maths groups: on Monday, Wednesday and Friday a total of eight groups run at Laurenzenvorstadt 77, from six to eight year olds in the early afternoon to the lower secondary group on Monday evening. Each group has at most eight children, usually four to six, so the teacher sees every single working.
Lessons follow the Brainorithmics Math Program developed by Nataša Mijatović. It follows the Swiss curriculum but goes deeper: the children do not only learn methods but why they work, and practise mental arithmetic, word problems and logical thinking in every lesson. Groups are arranged by age, and within a group every child works at their own level.
In Aarau the teachers are Nataša Mijatović and Lorena Maurizzi, and the younger groups are often taught by both. The children come from Aarau, Suhr, Buchs, Lenzburg, Zofingen, Olten and the whole region, many straight after school because the station is only five minutes away. Frequently asked questions about maths courses in Aarau
Which group will my child join in Aarau?
First by age, then by level. After the trial lesson we tell you which group fits. If a child is faster than their age group, they can move up to the next one, which happens regularly in Aarau.
My child has school until 3 pm on Monday and Wednesday. Are there later groups?
Yes. In Aarau groups run until 8 pm: on Mondays from 16:30 to 18:15 and from 18:15 to 20:00, on Wednesdays from 16:15 to 18:00, on Fridays from 16:00 to 17:45 and from 17:45 to 19:30. The exact age group is shown in the list above.
What is the difference between the maths course and tutoring in Aarau?
The course builds up maths systematically, in a group and over the school year, regardless of whether a test is coming up. Tutoring is one to one and starts where things are stuck at school right now. Many children in Aarau attend the course and take an additional tutoring lesson before a test.
How long is a lesson and how often does it take place?
The groups for children from age seven meet once a week for 105 minutes, and so does the group for six to eight year olds. There is a short break in between.
Is there also a lower secondary group in Aarau?
Yes, on Mondays from 18:15 to 20:00 for young people from age 11. The group covers algebra, geometry, proportions and the topics of lower secondary school, also with a view to the transition to the cantonal school.
