From a playful start with Coding Knight to Python and artificial intelligence: in our coding courses in Aarau, Cham and online children and teens learn to build their own games, animations and projects, developing logical thinking and creativity along the way.
For us coding is first of all a way of thinking: breaking a problem into small steps, recognising patterns, thinking in sequences and conditions, and sticking with it when something does not work the first time. No prior knowledge is needed, and your child does not have to be especially good at maths to start. Often it is the other way round: in coding, numbers, coordinates and rules suddenly have a visible job to do.

How a lesson works
Every lesson starts with a short round: what did we do last time, where do the projects stand, what is new today? The teacher then shows a new concept using a concrete example.
Most of the time the children work on their own project. The teacher looks over their shoulder, asks questions and helps where a child cannot get further alone, without giving away the answer: what have you tried already? At which point does the result change? At the end the children show each other what they have built. Explaining your work regularly is one of the best ways to understand it.
Small groups, in German or English
A group has at most eight children, usually four to six. That way every child gets feedback on their own work: faster children extend their project, and those who need more time look at a step more closely.
Lessons are taught in German or in English. English is a real advantage in coding, because many computing terms are English anyway. In Cham, Visual Programming on Thursday evening runs in English, and all online courses are taught in English.
On site in Aarau and Cham or online
Coding Knight, Digital Literacy, Visual Programming and the AI course take place on site at our schools in Aarau and Cham. Python, Minecraft and Game Design are taught online, with fixed times during the week and at the weekend. Visual Programming and AI are also available online.
On site suits younger children in particular and everyone who enjoys direct contact within the group. Online is ideal for teenagers who live further away or need more flexibility. The two can also be combined.
Prices
Coding Knight costs from CHF 132.50 per month, all other coding courses from CHF 157.50 per month, each in a small group and including a small gift. Siblings receive a 10, 15 or 20 % discount, and children who also attend a maths course receive a combined price on request. The trial lesson is free and without obligation.

- Saturdays: 11:30–13:00 (Digital Literacy, ages 7 to 10)
Online, in English: Python on Wednesdays 18:30 to 20:00, Thursdays 17:30 to 19:00 and Sundays 10:00 to 11:30 (ages 12 to 18), Minecraft on Thursdays 19:00 to 20:00 (ages 9 to 12), AI on Saturdays 14:30 to 16:00 (ages 12 to 15).
Where the course takes place
We offer coding courses at both Brainorithmics locations, in Aarau and in Cham. Both are central and easy to reach by train or car. Selected levels also take place online.

Frequently asked questions about coding courses
At what age can my child start coding?
At Brainorithmics children start at age 5 with Coding Knight, a playful introduction that does not require reading yet. Digital Literacy follows from age 7, Visual Programming with Scratch and Minecraft from 9, Game Design from 10, and from age 12 text based programming with Python and projects with artificial intelligence. Age is a guide, prior experience and interest matter just as much.
Does my child need any prior experience?
No. Every level starts from scratch and builds up step by step. Children with some experience join the right level directly after a short conversation, from the first block in Scratch to their own Python project.
Where do the coding courses take place?
In our classrooms in Aarau (Laurenzenvorstadt 77) and in Cham (Riedstrasse 3): Coding Knight, Digital Literacy, Visual Programming and AI. Python, Minecraft and Game Design are taught online, and the AI course is also available online, in German or in English.
What exactly will my child learn?
Depending on the level: logical thinking and first algorithms, their own animations and games in Scratch, worlds in Minecraft, game design from idea to finished level, Python projects and first AI applications. The focus is always a project of their own that your child can be proud of.
What does the partnership with Algorithmics mean?
Brainorithmics is an official partner of Algorithmics, an international coding school for children and teens. We use their proven, age appropriate learning concepts with clear levels from age 5 to 18 and combine them with the personal support in small groups at Brainorithmics.
Is coding not simply more screen time?
Not all screen time is the same. When coding, your child is not consuming but planning, building, testing and improving something of their own. Coding Knight also works partly without any typing, and in every lesson the children talk to each other about their ideas and projects.
