Coding courses for children in Aarau: from Coding Knight to AI
Coding Knight, Digital Literacy, Visual Programming and AI on site at Laurenzenvorstadt 77. Python, Minecraft and Game Design take place online.
In Aarau coding starts early: Coding Knight is our entry course for five to seven year olds, on Mondays from 15:30 to 16:30, taught by Nataša Mijatović and Lorena Maurizzi together. With picture cards, robots and first blocks on the tablet, the children learn what a command is, what a loop does and how to find a mistake, long before they write a single line of code.
From age seven Digital Literacy follows, on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:00 and Fridays from 15:00 to 16:00 with Nataša Mijatović: safe use of computers and the internet, first programs in a visual language, own animations and small games. Groups have at most eight children, usually four to six, and every child works on their own device.
From age nine it continues in Aarau with Visual Programming, also on site: own games and stories with blocks, variables, conditions and loops. For young people from age twelve there is the AI course, either at the school or online. Python, Minecraft and Game Design are taught online, with fixed weekly times and a teacher who sees every screen. For families from Aarau, Lenzburg, Zofingen or Olten that means: the start and the next step on site, the specialisation from home if they wish.

Frequently asked questions about coding courses in Aarau
Which coding courses are available on site in Aarau?
On site we run Coding Knight for five to seven year olds, Digital Literacy for seven to ten year olds, Visual Programming from age nine and the AI course from age twelve. Python, Minecraft and Game Design are taught online, because that way the groups come together from all over Switzerland. The AI course is also available online.
Does my child need to bring their own laptop to Aarau?
No. On site we provide tablets, laptops and all the material needed. For the online courses you need a computer at home with internet, camera and microphone.
Can a five year old really code already?
Not in the sense of writing code, but in the sense of thinking like a programmer: planning sequences, recognising patterns, steering a robot step by step. That is exactly what Coding Knight does, playfully and in an age appropriate way. Children who later attend Digital Literacy notice the head start.
How long does my child stay in Digital Literacy before moving on?
That depends on the child. Most move at nine or ten into Visual Programming, which also takes place on site in Aarau, and later into Minecraft, Game Design or Python online. We let you know in good time when your child is ready.
In which language are the coding lessons in Aarau taught?
The groups in Aarau run in German. In English we teach online and in Cham. The programming environments themselves are mostly bilingual, so switching later is no problem.
